How to solve range anxiety?

How to solve range anxiety?

Now we have three solutions to this: heavy current charging, high voltage charging, and battery swapping.

Heavy current charging

Tesla serves as a prime example. It will only take ten minutes to charge Tesla Mode 3 from 20% to 60%. Nevertheless, this kind of charging will generate a big amount of heat during charging which is a strict test. To guarantee heat dissipation, an intelligent liquid cooling method is needed to change the air cooling charging connector to the liquid cooling charging connector and utilize the liquid cooling pump inside to drive the coolant to bring the heat out.

High voltage charging

Porsche was the first to introduce an 800V electric car. In 2019, it launched Taycan with 800V high voltage, which can arrive at 350kw charging power, followed by Kia, Geely Xiaopeng, and other electric car manufacturers. However, though there are no heat dissipation questions, the cost of such an EV is higher because the parts of the EV need to be changed to the ones that can bear high voltage, which imposes great economic pressure on the drivers.

Recently Voyah launched a Spring Technical Communication Meeting and proclaimed that they would manufacture 800V electric cars in bulk and launched the first-megawatt electric charging station using the intelligent liquid cooling method, which supports at most 8C.

Battery change

Nio has established thousands of battery swap stations. It will take only 3 minutes for drivers to finish the change, but the cost is way too high and the technology it involves is extremely complicated.

Conclusion

At present, heavy current charging and high voltage charging are the trends but they are also restricted to whether the EV can accept it. Not every EV is capable of withstanding high-current charging or fully leveraging the 800V platform’s charging capabilities. Therefore, the better solution is to add more charging stations to improve charging infrastructure to bring convenience to drivers.
